Interesting timing today for this prompt, as Robin Wall Kimmerer had me thinking of this question all morning from another angle. The paragraph from her book, The Serviceberry, is:

“If the Sun is the source of flow in the economy of nature, what is the “Sun” of a human gift economy, the sources that constantly replenish the flow of gifts? Maybe it is love.”

I feel your prompt is asymmetric to my contemplation and struggle with the idea that nature has the consistency and reverence of the sun, yet what is the human equivalent?

I think the concept and meaning of love have been diminished over the decades by a series of, in hindsight, nuanced societal allowed decisions.

For me, the collective human gift is ‘curiosity’, as without the willingness to try something new, innovate and experiment, we probably wouldn’t have gotten far out of the caveman era.

On an individual level, the gift is our compass, which is made up of values, beliefs and actions that help us live our lives with compassion, pain and joy. At a societal level, we have lost some core values and beliefs that I believe have allowed corruption to thrive.

I am turning towards building an imagined FM radio of visionaries, empaths, storytellers, creatives, healers and humans to keep my curiosity, learning and compassion to the forefront of my daily decisions.
