Every year, in the next village over, a Jazz parade takes over the street. In a pure explosion of colour, absurdity, music, community and creativity, it is a perfect example of a what the sociologist Emile Durkheim would describe as a 'collective effervescence' moment. As the parade moved colourfully down the street, and the music built, the crowd collectively gained energy, and joy, until a huge outburst of dance and applause.
Run by local volunteers, it’s community arts as inspiration for social engagement, intergenerational connection and so much joy! That colour! That magic!
