Hello all
This is a message from past Clare giving future Clare a special permission slip.
It’s OK to take a break.
I’m on a creative retreat/adventure myself this week, doing some book research and catching up with some dear friends.
None of us are creativity or ‘content’ making machines. (I hate even thinking of writing as ‘content’; but the consumerist, linear narrative of productivity and drive creeps in to even to our sacred spaces: our words, creativity, dreams). However, we can outwit! With our humanity, humility, our needs for rest, our failures, our vulnerabilities, our ability to pause, listen, reflect and be.
Here’s to being creative beings not creative doings.
So, actually, I do have a mini ‘retreat’ for you, by way of a prompt.
‘I can give myself a break by…’
Maybe it is an actual break: a holiday, a bath, an early bedtime!
Or maybe it is a mental break, giving yourself permission to pause the internal monologue, which for so many of us I know goes something like this: I am not doing enough/ being enough/ creative enough, or just generally, enough. Gosh, it’s exhausting. Time to give ourselves a break.
In college, one of my favourite weeks was ‘reading week’, which was essentialy an intellectually coded way of saying ‘here’s some time to catch up. Sleep if you must’.
So, if you’d like your own Wild Edge Reading week here are a few different kind of past posts you may have missed, but might enjoy. I am imaging for you reading or listening somewhere warm and cozy, with something delicious to eat or drink. A journal by your side is always handy too.
I’ll be back soon!
Clare x

This is such a wonderful invitation. I’ve spent my break curating my 12 books - so hard and only a snapshot - if I did it again in a few months time I’m sure I’d choose different books, but it got me thinking about the books I love to read over and over again, the books that changed me, what might be seasonal about a particular book etc. Thank you for the prompt 🥰
